Psychotherapy


The National Mental Health Association suggests psychotherapy might be beneficial for people when:

  • You feel an overwhelming or prolonged sense of sadness and helplessness in your life
  • Your emotional difficulties make it hard for you to function from day to day
  • You are troubled by emotional difficulties facing family members or close friends
  • You are having problems in your relationships

One of the ways I work with clients is through Mindfulness-based Therapy. This is an approach that focuses on increasing self-awareness and attaining insight into why we do and say the things we do. By learning how to "pay attention" to our thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations, we can help shift old patterns that no longer serve us. This approach is based on a combination of Eastern philosophies and Western psychology. In addition to stress relief, it can also help us learn how to communicate more effectively with others.

Other benefits of this approach is that it allows us to practice living in the "now", as well as developing greater compassion for our selves. By finding a balance between "doing" and "being", we can become more alive and fully human.

I believe in fostering an environment of unconditional acceptance because I know it takes courage and strength to reach out for help. In a non-judgmental and supportive atmosphere, we will explore the challenges in your life together.

Our sessions together might typically include one or more of the following: 

Talk Therapy
(exploring issues arising in the present, as well as concerns from the past and possibilities for the future)

Guided Visualization
(accessing images and visualizations in your “mind’s eye” as a means of uncovering unconscious material)

Focused Breathing and Brief Meditations: (exercises done to promote relaxation and stress reduction, as well as building self awareness and insight).

 Fostering Intuition
(learning to listen and trust our inner voice of “knowing”)
